Solar-like p-mode oscillations in a EB system
Abstract:
We propose to add a detached
eclipsing binary system to the list of short-cadence targets for Kepler. Both
components appear to be on the main sequence, and thus should exhibit
solar-like p-mode pulsations. While the identification and analysis of these
modes will be more challenging than for a single star, a great deal of
additional information can be obtained. In particular, high-degree oscillation
modes may be identified through eclipse mapping. In combination with ground-based
spectroscopy, the asteroseismic analysis will provide constraints on the
internal structure and rotation of stars under the effect of tidal forces.
