Asteroseismology of Beta Cephei stars with Kepler

Abstract:

We propose long-term monitoring of a sample of candidate new beta Cep stars in the Kepler FoV to detect and interprete their heat-driven low-order pressure and gravity modes. Our current short list of three well-modelled stars consists only of very slow rotators. We thus need to increase this sample with stars within a larger range of rotational velocities. This will allow a high-precision estimate of the core convective overshooting and internal rotational properties of main-sequence stars of spectral type between B0 and B2.
