Asteroseismology of Gamma Doradus stars with Kepler
Abstract:
We propose to observe, on the one
hand, a sample of candidate new Gamma Doradus stars in the Kepler FoV for
long-term monitoring to detect their high-order gravity modes. This will allow a
careful study of the interaction of convection and g-mode oscillations.
Moreover, we seek to establish, for the first time, the simultaneous occurrence
of gravity-mode and stochastically-excited pressure-mode oscillations in a smal
subsample of carefully chosen targets. Gamma Doradus stars have the potential
to exhibit both these types of oscillations, which probe very different inner stellar
regions. Thus they hold great potential for high-precision asteroseismic
inferences of their interior structure.
